I am very passionate about giving back to my community. This is a quality instilled in me, through my mom, since childhood. As far back as I can remember, she and I would do volunteer work whenever possible. I have volunteered for local animal rescues, during hurricane relief phases, and local library systems.

I started looking for volunteer opportunities as we were coming out of the pandemic quarantine. And, while I am extremely passionate about animal rescue, I felt l needed an opportunity that would allow me to reconnect with people. Not just because of the isolation of quarantine but because of the general atmosphere of anger, fear and hate that is still pervasive. I needed to see people do good and help do some good with them. 

oUR DAILY BREAD FOOD BANK

Currently, I am volunteering for the Hand of Hope meal kitchen associated with the Our Daily Bread food bank in Hammond, Louisiana. I started volunteering for them in late 2020 and helped with meal prep on Thursday mornings for approximately a year. I had to take a brief hiatus due to heavy work projects but started back again by assisting them at their meal site in Kentwood, Louisiana on the first Saturday every month. I call myself a meal runner because we drive the hot meals down the car line. I not only get to feed people but engage and connect with them on a personal level. My mom and I also often volunteer on the meal serve line on Thanksgiving Day. 

I am especially passionate about donating and volunteering to food relief organizations. My mom and I faced food insecurity and hunger several times during my adolescence. And we had to lean on others' helping hands and food relief organizations like Our Daily Bread. I encourage everyone to volunteer on a meal line in your community at least once. It is such a rewarding and eye-opening experience.
